Ape And The Carpenter Story
One day, a monkey watched a carpenter cut a wooden log into two pieces. First, the carpenter inserted a small wedge into the gap in the log to keep it open.
When the crack was wide enough, he drove in a large wedge and pulled out the first one.
At noon the Carpenter went home to dinner. The monkey thought, “If a carpenter can cut a log, then so can I!”
The monkey jumped and sat on the carpenter’s table. When he was ready to cut the log, his long tail slid into a gap in the log.
The monkey did not notice this, but set to work. He inserted the first wedge exactly as the carpenter did. But then he pulled it out before he drove into the second one. The two sides of the log joined instantly. The monkey’s tail is stuck between them.
The poor monkey screamed in pain. The carpenter returned and laughed at the monkey. He said, “I’m sure you now know what happens when you interfere with other people’s work.”
