A Rich Mouse And A Holy Man Story
There lived a holy man. He was poor and dependent on alms. He ate some food and kept the rest in a begging bowl hung high on a peg. The mouse saw this and got used to jumping up and helping himself to food.
One day a friend of a holy man came to him. After they had eaten, they began to chat. The holy man could not concentrate and continued to tap the ground with a stick to scare away the mouse.
A friend asked, “What are you doing? Why don’t you listen to me properly?” “Sorry!” Holy Man said. “It’s just a terrible mouse! He eats whatever food I can save.”
Wondering how the mouse could jump so high, the friend said, “The mouse must have put off a lot of food, which should give it extraordinary energy to jump so high.”
Then they dug up and found a supply of food, which the mouse had collected and taken away.
The mouse returned to find that his supply of food was gone and was very sad. He lost all interest in stealing food from the holy man’s bowl.
