The Nightingale Story

Long ago, far away in the deep jungles of China, there lived a nightingale. This nightingale had a beautiful voice. And when she sang, she enchanted all who listened to her song. Near the jungle, an emperor lived in his great castle. The castle was built from the most expensive stones. And the king had everything he could need. The king had heard of a nightingale that sang in the deep woods that sloped down to the sea. Many travelers had written about the nightingale. Everyone had nothing but praise and said the bird was the greatest wonder on earth. One day the king heard of the nightingale. “Why didn’t we talk about this nightingale?” he ordered. “She will sing here, tonight or the whole court will be punished!” Immediately, all the courtiers set out to find the nightingale. The only problem was that no one knew where to look for it! Then they found a kitchen boy who blackmailed him.

“Where can we find this bird?” they asked him. “Come with me,” replied the kitchen boy, “I’ll show you the way.” He took them through the woods to where the nightingale was singing. The men were amazed when they heard the bird sing. They were surprised that a simple bird could sing so well. “Little nightingale!” shouted one of the courtiers, “Will you come with us to sing at the Emperor’s court?” “With pleasure!” the nightingale accepted. The emperor’s palace was decorated for this occasion. The floors shone with beautiful lanterns and the most beautiful flowers were arranged in the corridors of the palace. In the middle of the reception, near the place where the emperor sat, a small golden wand was placed.

The rod was for the nightingale. The big night has arrived and the nightingale has sung its most beautiful song for the court. After hearing the song, everyone was charmed by the nightingale. “You will have my golden slippers!” said the emperor, deciding to reward the beautiful creature. The nightingale happily refused and told the emperor that he was already happy. The emperor was so pleased with the bird that he decided to keep her in his palace. He offered the nightingale a golden cage and twelve servants to watch over it. So the nightingale sang and sang at the court of the emperor. Soon all of China was talking about the bird. But the poor bird did not feel happy in the cage. The nightingale wanted to be free and sing in the woods. One day a large package arrived for the king. “Nightingale” was written on it. When they opened the package, they found a toy mechanical nightingale. This nightingale was made of gold and had precious rubies stuck on it. And around the neck of the mechanical nightingale, a ribbon was tied, and it was written: “The nightingale of the emperor of Japan is very poor compared to the nightingale of the emperor of China.”

When the bird was injured, it would sing a song and wave its golden and silver tail. Everyone in the yard was amazed. “How amazing!” they would cry. The beautiful toy was placed on a silk cushion near the emperor’s bed. But the toy knew only one song, unlike the real nightingale. One day, something strange happened. The ruby-studded toy started making strange noises. And then suddenly the toy nightingale stopped working. The royal doctor was called as well as the royal watchmaker. Together they opened the toy and examined it. When they did not understand what was wrong with the toy, other nobles were called. But unfortunately, none of them knew what to do! Meanwhile, the real nightingale, which had been caged, had escaped. She walked back into the deep green woods. So when the toy stopped singing, the emperor fell very ill. The Emperor’s courtiers thought he was going to die! The poor king was stiff and pale in his massive bed. The nightingale has heard the sad news.

One night she flew into the emperor’s chamber and sang one of his most beautiful songs. And when the emperor heard the bird sing, he sat down. The next morning, the emperor smiled happily. He said to the nightingale: “You must always stay with me. You can sing anytime you want and I’ll smash the fake nightingale into a thousand pieces! “No,” said the nightingale, “you mustn’t.” The toy did everything it could. I can’t build a nest here in the castle. So let me come whenever I want. And I will sit on a branch and I will sing for you. The Emperor happily accepted. He had now realized that it was not right to cage the beautiful bird without his will. The nightingale belonged to the woods and was a free bird. When the Emperor came out of his room looking healthy, all the courtiers were shocked. The emperor ruled for many years. And the nightingale visited her whenever she wanted.
