Dad’s Blessings Story

The young man was preparing to graduate from college. For months, he admired the beautiful sports car at the dealer’s showroom, and knowing that his father could afford it, he told him that it was all he wanted.

As graduation approached, the young man waited for signs that his father had bought a car. Finally, on the morning before his graduation, his father called him into his private office. His father told him how proud he was to have such a wonderful son and told him how much he loved him.

He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a beautiful leather-bound Bible with the young man’s name embossed in gold.

Angry, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money, are you giving me a Bible?” And flew out of the house, leaving the Bible behind. Many years passed, and the young man was very successful in business. He had a wonderful home and a wonderful family, but he realized that his father was very old and thought that perhaps he should go to him.

He hasn’t seen him since that day of graduation. Before he could take action, he received a telegram stating that his father had passed away and bequeathed all his property to his son. He needed to go home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father’s house, a sense of sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.

He began to rummage through his father’s important papers and saw a still new Bible, the same as he had left it many years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. And when he did, a car key fell out of the back of the Bible.

It bore a tag with the name of the dealer, the same dealer who had the coveted sports car. The tag bore the end date and the words Paid in Full.
