Faithful Mongoose Story

In A Small Village There Lived A Kind Brahmin With His Wife. They Had A Little Son. One Day, Returning Home From A Nearby Village, He Came Across A Mongoose Cub Crying Next To The Corpse Of Its Mother.

Poor Thing, The Brahmin Thought. “If I Leave Him Here, He Will Definitely Die.” He Picked It Up And Took It Home With Him.

“Gowry, I Found This Little Creature On My Way Home. “Let’s Take Care Of Him,” He Told His Wife. “It’s Good That I And My Son Will Take Care Of The Mongoose,” His Wife Replied.

The Mongoose Grew Up With Great Love And Care In The Home Of A Brahmin. He Slept Next To The Brahmin’s Son In The Cradle, Drank Milk And Played With The Boy Every Day. The Days Of The Mongoose In The Brahmin’s House Were Full Of Joy.

As The Boy And The Mongoose Grew Up, Their Friendship Gave Way To A Relationship Between The Two Brothers.

The Mongoose Grew Rapidly, And Over Time, The Brahmin’s Wife Began To Doubt Her Mind. “After All, This Is A Wild Animal. Sooner Or Later He Will Show His True Face, ”she Thought To Herself. She Parted The Mongoose’s Bed And Watched Him Intently Whenever He Ever Played With Her Son.

Once, When The Brahmin Was Not There. Gowry Decided To Go To The River For A Pot Of Water. She Looked Around And Saw That Her Son Was Fast Asleep In His Cradle. The Mongoose Also Slept On The Floor At The Foot Of The Cradle. It Takes Only A Few Minutes.

I Hope I Can Trust This Mongoose Not To Harm My Little Son, She Told Herself, And With One Last Look At Both Of Them, She Hurried To The River.

Suddenly The Mongoose Woke Up With A Start. He Heard A Very Faint Noise. Looking Up, The Mongoose Saw A Large Black Snake Crawling Into A Hole In The Wall.

“The Snake Will Hurt My Brother. Mother And Father Are Away. I’ll Have To Protect My Little Brother, The Mongoose Thought As The Snake Crawled To The Cradle.

A Brave Little Mongoose Pounced On A Huge Black Snake. After A Long Fierce Fight, The Little Mongoose Finally Managed To Kill The Snake.

It Was Then That He Heard The Return Of The Brahmin’s Wife. Joyfully He Ran Out To Meet His Mother And Tried To Tell Her With The Help Of His Animals That He Had Protected His Younger Brother From A Terrible Snake.

But As Soon As Gowry Saw The Blood On The Mouth And Legs Of The Mongoose, She Thought, “This Wretched Animal Killed My Little Son.” In A Fit Of Anger, The Brahmin’s Wife Poured A Pot Of Water Over The Mongoose, Instantly Killing Him.

Entering The House With A Heavy Heart, She Was Amazed To See Her Young Son Lying In The Cradle, Still Deeply Asleep. On The Floor Lay A Huge Black Snake With An Ugly Head Bitten Off.

“Oh, What Have I Done?” – Exclaimed The Brahmin’s Wife. “I Killed That Faithful Little Mongoose Who Saved The Life Of My Precious Son.”
