Once upon a time there was a king who had twelve beautiful daughters. They slept in twelve beds in one room, and when they went to bed the doors were closed and locked, but every morning their shoes were completely worn out, as if they had been dancing all night, and yet no one could know how it happened, or where they were. Then the king announced to the whole country that if anyone could discover the secret and find out where the princesses dance in the night, he should take the one he loves most as his wife and become king. after his death, but he who tried and did not succeed, after three days and nights, must be put to death.
Soon the king’s son came. He was well entertained, and in the evening he was taken to the room next to the one where the princesses lay on their twelve beds. But the prince soon fell asleep, and when he woke up in the morning, he found that all the princesses were dancing, because the soles of their shoes were full of holes. It so happened that an old soldier, who had been wounded in battle and could no longer fight, was passing through the country where this king ruled, and walking through the forest, he met an old woman who asked him where he was going. .
