Cristiano Ronaldo Struggle Story

Cristiano Ronaldo Struggle Story

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, also known as Cristiano Ronaldo, was born on February 5, 1985, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal to a very poor family. Poverty made his life very difficult. His father, José, worked as a gardener and picker for a football club for very low wages. His job as an outfitter was to supply footballers with kits and clean their rooms.

Since José could not achieve anything significant in his life, he was very guilty towards himself, and also could not properly feed his children due to poverty. All these worries made him an alcoholic, but that didn’t stop him from taking good care of Ronaldo. José later introduced his son to football and from childhood, he was more interested in football than studies. Ronaldo played football very well, as he loved this sport very much.

José couldn’t afford football for his son due to poverty, so Ronaldo rolled old clothes into a ball and played football with him on the street. Since he couldn’t afford proper shoes, he borrowed old shoes from his relatives to play football.

Ronaldo trained very hard from childhood because he knew that a football player needs good endurance because a football match requires a player to run at least 10 kilometers in one match. Sometimes he trained continuously from morning to evening. He used to play with older players to improve his game. Later, Ronaldo joined the Andorinha football club, where his father worked as a picker.

There, Ronaldo faced humiliation from his fellow footballers, who teased him because his father worked there as a picker, cleaning the players’ rooms. At the age of 10, the neighbors began to consider him a good football player. His name has become synonymous with football. Then, at age 12, he left his home and family to join a football club called Sporting CP where he played football and studied at the same time. There, too, Ronaldo faced humiliation from his fellow footballers, who taunted him for his way of speaking. But Ronaldo decided to give them a decent answer with his game.

And the doctors suggested that he give up playing football, as it requires running, which aggravates tachycardia. Doctors warned him that if he continued to play football, he could face death due to heart failure. Everyone thought that Ronaldo’s football career had come to an end. Fortunately, the doctors offered him a second option – heart surgery. But the second option had a serious catch, that if the operation failed, he might die, and if the operation was successful, then there was little chance that he would play football either.

For Ronaldo’s family, the first option seemed appropriate, as the first option does not require surgery and he can live his life without playing football or doing any physical activity. His family members asked doctors to consider the first option. But little Ronaldo decided to take the biggest risk of his life, not even fearing death, that he would have an operation to fulfill his dream of playing football, even though there was little chance that after the operation he would be able to play football. Ronaldo had the vision to become one of the greatest footballers. He told his parents about his decision, and at the age of 15, he underwent open-heart surgery. Luckily, he survived the operation and recovered slowly.
